mindstorm research

Extract taken from:

Microsoft Robotics + Lego Mindstorms = Kicking Robo Booty?

Lego Mindstorms is about the coolest, most accessible, most wide-demographic robotics kit you can buy. I am a co-conspirator/parent coordinator for my 10 year old son's elementary school Robotics club, and we are hooked on Mindstorms. The kids absolutely love it, the adults love it, the microbes living in the ventillation system love it. It seems like with some Microsoft backing, it could be a monster educational tool, if not just a really fun thing to geek out on. Microsoft's new(?) "Robotics Studio" sounds as though it will support Mindstorms!!!111!!

Anyway, I'm going to abuse my complete lack of power as an organizer of the robotics club to try out the SDK. I'll keep the ones upon ones of readers of this blog informed about my progress.

I've italicised points of relevance in the above extract, although the fact he claims it appeals to the "coolest, most accessible, most wide-demographic" doesn't help to narrow the target audience down.

Whats interesting is the "Microsoft new Robotics Studio", sounds like an area of development that could open up new avenues for this technology.

The author of the post is a guy called Mike Henderson who is, surprise surprise works in engineering as a software systems engineer. His about me statement includes the line "always passionate about technology", so no prizes guessing where his interest in Mindstorm originated. He has a keen interest in computer games and has written an extensive blog on this subject called "The Golden Age of Computer Games"
Ive left Mike the following comment;

Hi Mike,

My names James Dunford, I am a studying Design for Digital Media at Leeds College of Art and Design in England and have been recently assigned to produce a 45 second tv advert for Lego Mindstorm.

At the moment the project is still at the research stage and i am trying to gather information with regards to target audience/ demographics and the creative potential of the system and how it builds industry skills.

Any information with regards to the above would be much appreciated, my email address is dunfordjames@hotmail.com

So fingers crossed he might reply with some useful information.
