
To add the IK Spline Handle, go Skeleton - IK Spline Handle and click at the root joint and then at the top shoulder joint, making sure the settings are the same as in the illustration (im sure they can be tailored to suit the situation, but for now i'm doing as the book says).
If you go into component mode you'll see 2 control vertexes that can be pushed and pulled around, but the spine doesn't stretch with it. That will be solved in the next step...
