animation - hammer and nail

I do like this animation, it has a good narrative and i appreciate the work thats gone into rendering the characters and background, but there are one or two things i don't feel are quite right. First, i don't like the way the characters are portrayed. The hammer and nails have been given eyes, that do not further the characters dimension but only add a miniscule amount of tension when the hammer's sneaking up on it's quarry. I think a far better sense of tension could be achieved more graphically with better timing, making the movements far less subtle and more obvious.
I'm also not too sure about the illustrative style, presumably the animator has opted for a cartoon style, but kept the important features (ie eyes, face etc) to a minimum and not developed the attributes a hammer and nail posseses in a cartoon style.
Dont like the way the hammer moves. The animator has decided a possesed hammer would bend midway down the shaft, losing it's rigidity. The Hammer's supposed to be threatening and dangerous. All in all it just doesn't look right.
