Mindstorm competition

Video promoting the uk robotics competition in great britain makes very apparent that Mindstorm is for both boys and girls. Sort of reminds me of the people who would sit watching blue peter, following the step by step instructions.

Seems to be more about making ditty little robots, as opposed to the full project lines constructed out of fischer technic, and for what it's worth looks far cooler and accessible to the younger markets.

So what attracts the older generations? Been looking on the gadget show website and its started me thinking about the kind of "adults" that would be into this sort of this thing. Can't embed the video, so a link will have to do.
